agropet®
The polyester monofilament that works where steel fails
Agropet® is a high-tenacity polyester (PET) monofilament designed to replace galvanized wire in agricultural and tensioning structures. It holds tension without re-tensioning, resists fertilizers, agrochemicals and saline environments, and being non-metallic it is dielectric: it doesn't conduct electricity or interfere with antenna and mast signals.
- Immune to corrosion: it never rusts with water, fertilizers or agrochemicals.
- Dielectric and safe: it doesn't conduct electricity, ideal near power lines and antennas.
- Light and easy to handle: up to 5 times lighter than steel, less installer fatigue.

Advantages over galvanized wire
Never rusts
PET is chemically inert to water, fertilizers, agrochemicals and salt spray. Where galvanized wire corrodes and stains the crop, Agropet® stays intact season after season.
Permanent tension, no re-tensioning
Its low elongation and thermal stability keep the initial tension. With no expansion or contraction loosening the line, it installs at 1% tension with the same tools (tensioners, gripples).
Dielectric — non-conductive
Being non-metallic, it doesn't conduct electricity or emit radio frequency. It's the ideal guy-wire for antennas, masts and towers, and safer near power lines.
Agropet® vs galvanized wire
| Feature | Galvanized wire | Agropet® |
|---|---|---|
| Weight | Heavy (steel ≈ 7.85 g/cm³) | Up to 5× lighter (PET 1.36 g/cm³) |
| Corrosion / rust | Rusts and stains the crop | Zero rust — immune to corrosion |
| Electricity | Conductive — risk near lines/antennas | Dielectric — non-conductive, no signal interference |
| Handling and installation | Rigid, heavy, tiring for the installer | Light and flexible — installs at 1% tension |
| Temperature | Expands and contracts with heat | Stable from −40 °C to +70 °C |
| Maintenance / re-tensioning | Needs periodic re-tensioning | Holds tension with no re-tensioning |
| Outdoor service life | Limited by corrosion | Years of service without maintenance (2–3× the life of wire) |
Agricultural applications
Replaces wire in the trellis, the espalier and the greenhouse. No rust, no stains and tension always on point.

Trellised vineyards
Replaces wire in the trellis: it doesn't rust or stain the grapes and holds tension without re-tensioning.

Intensive and super-intensive olive groves
Supports the hedge load lines; light and resistant to agrochemicals.

Espaliered fruit trees
Guides and supports without damaging trunks or branches; compatible with mechanical harvesting.

Staking and training
Stakes and auxiliary lines for vegetables and young fruit trees, with stable tension.

Greenhouses and thermal screens
Supports curtains and screens; dielectric and stable against temperature changes.

Anti-hail net support
Light, strong support line for protection and shade nets.

Drying yards, ponds and fencing
Maximum-load main lines (Ø 5 mm) in humid environments with no risk of rust.
The perfect guy-line for antennas and masts
Guy-lines are the cables that stabilize TV antennas, masts, poles and towers against the wind. Agropet® is the ideal guy-wire because it is a dielectric polyester monofilament: it doesn't conduct electricity, doesn't interfere with the signal and doesn't rust or stain the façade. We recommend 2.6–3 mm for domestic antennas and masts, and 4–5 mm for tall or exposed masts.
Dielectric: it emits no radio frequency and doesn't interfere with the signal — safer than steel near power lines.

Mast and antenna guy-lines
Dielectric guy-wire for TV, radio communication and towers: no radio frequency, no rust.

Tensioning cord and cable
Polyester tensioner as a non-metallic alternative to steel cable, weather-resistant.

Fencing and enclosures
Tensioning chain-link mesh, screening and perimeter fencing for livestock or sports.

Marine and coastal environments
Immune to salt spray where galvanized wire fails through corrosion.
Recommended gauges for guy-lines: Ø 2.6–3 mm for domestic antennas and masts; Ø 4–5 mm for tall or exposed masts.
Gauges and colour

Ø 3 mmHow to install
It works with the same tools as wire, but lighter and with no risk of rust.
Tensioners / gripples
To fix and tension the line quickly and adjustably.
Posts and anchors
End posts and ground anchors for the main lines.
Clips and hooks
To hold the wire to intermediate posts without damaging it.
Scissors or cutter
Clean cut of the monofilament; no special tool required.
- 1
Unwind the coil
Place the 10 kg coil on a rotating stand and unwind it along the line without twisting the wire.
- 2
Fix the end at the head
Anchor one end to the end post or ground anchor with the tensioner.
- 3
Run the wire through the posts
Guide the monofilament through the clips or hooks of the intermediate posts.
- 4
Tension to 1%
Apply tension to about 1% of the line length with the tensioner or gripple.
- 5
Finish and check
Fix the final end and check the tension. As it holds tension, it needs no periodic re-tensioning.

Frequently asked questions
What is Agropet®?
Agropet® is a polyester wire (high-tenacity PET monofilament) from Textil Villa de Pego that replaces galvanized wire in agricultural and tensioning structures. It never rusts, is dielectric and weighs up to 5 times less than steel.
How does it differ from steel wire?
It doesn't rust or stain the crop, doesn't conduct electricity, weighs up to 5 times less and holds tension without re-tensioning. Galvanized steel corrodes, conducts and needs maintenance.
Can it be used as a guy-wire for antennas and masts?
Yes. Being a dielectric polyester monofilament, it emits no radio frequency, doesn't interfere with the signal and doesn't rust. We recommend Ø 2.6–3 mm for domestic antennas and masts, and Ø 4–5 mm for tall or exposed masts.
Is it dielectric? Does it conduct electricity?
It doesn't conduct electricity. Being non-metallic it is dielectric, which makes it safer near power lines and antennas, with no signal interference.
Does it need re-tensioning every season?
No. Its low elongation and thermal stability keep the initial tension, so it doesn't require periodic re-tensioning like wire.
What gauges and colours are available?
Five gauges —Ø 2.2 / 2.6 / 3 / 4 / 5 mm— on 10 kg coils, available in Crystal (clear) and Black.
Does it withstand sun and weathering?
Yes. It is formulated for prolonged outdoor exposure and offers years of service life without maintenance, around 2–3 times the life of galvanized wire.
How much does it weigh compared to steel?
Polyester has a density of 1.36 g/cm³ versus the ~7.85 g/cm³ of steel, so Agropet® is up to about 5 times lighter: less transport, easier handling and less fatigue when installing.
