What are crop-protection nets?
Crop-protection nets are technical fabrics woven from UV-stabilised high-density polyethylene (HDPE) that place a physical barrier between the crop and external threats: hail, wind, insects, birds or frost. Unlike chemical treatments, they protect the harvest continuously and without residues, season after season.
Textil Villa de Pego has manufactured these nets in Pego (Alicante, Spain) since 1949, controlling the entire process: monofilament extrusion, leno weaving and made-to-measure finishing. The result is a range of ten ISO 9001-certified crop-protection nets, available in the dimensions, weights and colours that each crop and climate demand.

Hail netting
High-tenacity HDPE netting for the protection of fruit trees, vineyards and vegetables against hail. Available in standard and Zip system (open/close without dismounting). UV-stabilised monofilament for multi-season durability.

Windbreak netting
HDPE windbreak nets with 30% to 50% porosity for wind speed reduction without leeward turbulence. Heights up to 6 metres with perimeter reinforcements. More effective than a solid barrier because it filters the airflow.

Anti-insect and aphid netting
HDPE insect screen nets with densities from 21x10.5 threads/cm (thrip exclusion, 50 mesh) to 6x6 threads/cm (Lepidoptera). Anti-aphid range for green and black aphids. High light transmission. Compatible with greenhouse and tunnel.

Anti-thrips mesh
High-density HDPE mesh (21×11 threads/cm, 0.24 mm light passage) that excludes thrips and aphids while keeping ventilation. Available in crystal and black, for protected crops in greenhouses and tunnels.

Anti-Drosophila suzukii mesh
Exclusion mesh specifically against Drosophila suzukii in fruit trees, berries and vineyards. Fine weave that prevents egg-laying without sacrificing crop ventilation. UV-stabilised.

Bird netting
Extruded HDPE netting with calibrated mesh opening to prevent bird access without affecting ventilation or light. Weight below 20 g/m² in standard models. Lightweight for installation on existing structures. UV stabilised.

Waterproof plasticised netting
UV-treated plasticised HDPE netting. Waterproof protection against adverse weather conditions: rain, wind and excessive humidity. Physical barrier against excess water that reduces fungal diseases. Variants: 1-sided, 2-sided and Cherry Rain Cover.

Frost blanket
Non-woven polypropylene (TNT) frost blanket for frost protection, germination acceleration and early spring crop forcing. Water and air permeable. Lightweight weights for minimal shading and maximum light transmission.

Frequently asked questions
about agricultural nets
What material is used in Textil Villa de Pego agricultural nets?
Textil Villa de Pego agricultural nets are manufactured from UV-stabilised high-density polyethylene (HDPE). The ground cover uses woven polypropylene (PP) and the frost blanket uses non-woven polypropylene (TNT). All materials are European-origin with full traceability.
How long does a Textil Villa de Pego agricultural net last?
Service life depends on net type, sun exposure and climatic conditions. HDPE anti-hail nets: 5 to 10 years depending on installation zone. Windbreak nets: 8 to 10 years. Shade nets, 5 to 8 years. PP ground cover, up to 10 years depending on weight.
Can nets be manufactured to custom dimensions?
Yes. Textil Villa de Pego manufactures nets with custom dimensions, perimeter reinforcements, hems and cuts adapted to each installation system. We do not require disproportionate minimum orders for custom finishing. Quote within 48 working hours.
What shade percentage does my crop need?
It depends on the crop and climate zone. General guidance: greenhouse vegetables, 30–50%. Nurseries and ornamentals, 50–70%. Car parks and rest areas, 70–90%. Our technical team will advise on the optimal percentage for your situation.
What is the difference between anti-insect and anti-aphid netting?
Anti-insect netting excludes medium to large insects (butterflies, flies). Anti-aphid netting has higher density (50 mesh) to block aphids and thrips. Anti-aphid offers less ventilation, so insect exclusion and air circulation must be balanced.
Are Textil Villa de Pego nets compatible with existing installations?
Yes. Textil Villa de Pego nets are manufactured to be compatible with standard support systems: wooden, metal and concrete posts, steel cables and greenhouse structures. Textil Villa de Pego accessories (clips, staples, caps) facilitate fixation.
How is anti-hail netting installed?
Installation requires a support structure (posts and cables) over which the netting is deployed. The standard system provides fixed coverage over the plot. The Zip system allows opening and closing for phytosanitary treatments. Consult our technical team.
Does Textil Villa de Pego export agricultural nets outside Spain?
Yes. Textil Villa de Pego exports to over 30 countries, including France, Germany, Portugal, Morocco, Chile, Peru and Colombia. Our sales team works in Spanish, English, French and German. Request a quote for your market.
How is an agricultural net installed?
Installation combines posts (wood, concrete or metal), a perimeter tensioning cable, fixing clips or straps, and stakes or staples. Structure is sized to dominant wind, crop load and net type. We supply own-brand accessories (clips, staples, caps, carabiners) and technical advice for structural design.
Are agricultural nets reusable?
Most are: anti-bird, Zip-system anti-hail, mobile shading, harvest tarp and mosquito nets are mounted and dismantled each season. Ground-cover and laminated nets are usually permanent installations. Reuse depends on careful dismantling and dry, shaded storage.
What UV treatment should agricultural nets have?
UV stabilisation is sized to the radiation of the deployment zone and the intended use. A standard treatment guarantees several seasons of direct exposure at Mediterranean latitudes. Some industrial references or packaging bags do not require UV. We configure the UV additive per order.
Are agricultural nets recyclable?
High-density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP) are mechanically recyclable at end of life. Spain runs selective collection programmes for agricultural plastics (SIGFITO and similar) that accept nets, ropes and greenhouse films. We design for recyclability as part of our quality system.
